Digital Television

Why Do I Need
To Upgrade To Digital Television?:
The television transmission
system serving the UK is currently going through its most
significant change for more than 30 years.
In the early 1970s we changed
from the original VHF black and white system to the colour UHF
system we know today.
We are currently changing from a 4/5 channel analogue system to
a multi-channel digital system giving far greater choice of
programming for you the viewer.
The digital terrestrial
service (Freeview) is already fully available in many areas of
the UK.
Some areas currently have a partial service only however
and in a few areas the digital service is not yet available.
Analogue
transmissions are scheduled to cease altogether in the UK
between late 2007 and 2019 depending on where within in the UK you
live.
France, Holland and Belgium are also due to go digital from 2019
onwards this is at best an informed guess as the member states
have just agreed the outline terms for this to happen in the
European Union.

Note
on UHF AERIALS
There are two types of
aerials used on domestic houses around the UK for the reception of TV;-
1. The Contract
Aerial
2. The High Quality Aerial
The contract aerial is
a cheap metal based aerial which can cost as little as £5 and can in some
locations provide a suitable level of signal however ( We do not provide these
)
The High Quality
Aerial supplied by us will cost more and is well made with a PCB Pelum that is
added to the dipole element to improve impedance matching of the 75ohm Coax
cable , this factor together with the remaining calculated aerial
characteristics provides a good signal with good rejection of unwanted signals.
All the chimney or
wall fittings we use are galvanised and are not the cheaper painted type that go
rusty in a couple of months or so.
Generally we use 2
inch high quality steel galvanised poles for strength and durability not cheaper
aluminium poles that have a tendency to whip and then break in high winds.
Each proposed aerial
installation has a site survey and consultation with the customer to establish
the best location, fixing points and cable routings for the new aerial array, at
this point of this process we also where appropriate use a Spectrum Analyser to
confirm what aerials & equipment may be required to achieve the best possible
reception and TV picture.
After the site survey
and consultation a written priced quotation will be supplied to the customer for
there approval prior to any works being carried out.
A state of the art RF Spectrum Analyser is utilised during
all site installations to test the RF signal level & signal quality in the case
of digital signals the Bit Error Rate will also be accessed to give optimum
performance. A print out of the test results may be provided by us as proof of
our works being fit for purpose and or for job sign of proof purposes
We have a wide
experience of helping out in problem areas when signal quality is impaired due
to multiple reflections caused by trees, hills and tall building etc, with our
extensive test equipment we can quickly evaluate if existing aerials can receive
the Terrestrial Digital signals, what upgrades are needed or if only part
signals will be obtainable .
